I have spent most of the last 20+ years working as a Software Engineer or Tech Lead. In the Summer of 2022, there was an opening for a Product Security Engineer at my current company. I had been at the company as a Senior Software Engineer for 1.5 years and was a Security Champion for about a year. My role as a Security Champion reminded me of the passion I had as a Software Safety Engineer in the early 2000s at a defense contractor so I decided to go for the new role. Because of the relationship I already had with the Product Security team in my engineering role and my knowledge of the systems at the company, it made the move to Product Security easy. I have spent the last 4 months getting my bearings and this blog is for me to share my experiences going from an Engineering role to a Product Security role.
